Island maintenance from the Ranger.

07/09/24

Sorry for the hiatus. A lot has gone on, but not much has happened. I was also supposed to have gone on holiday again, and my help was on holiday. It has also been honey harvest season so I’ve been busy with the bees and jarring up the honey.

Some people have noticed that the trees and brambles next to the cobbles on the island have been chopped back. This is the land owners, the Victorian Lanterns. They have received complaints about the condition of the land and hired a contractor to clear the land and plant grass. we have come to a mutual decision for me to maintain the land going forward. We are going to plant some apple trees, place a bird feeder and plant some wildflowers.

As I said a lot has gone on. I’ve cleared the back path a bit more; I removed the sign above the noticeboard to look at replacing it; I placed down some wood chip around the benches; I pulled some Himalayan balsam and some ragwort. We have also cleared out more of the drains on the island.

We have put some mulch mats around the young apple trees which should help with their growth.

and finally, we moved a dead hedge to near the main path. the old dead hedge had fallen over/spilt over. It had well and truly rotted down over the years and needed to be aerated.

There’s still a lot of work to be done and we could do with help. if you are interested in helping please fill in THIS form.
